We need to provide safe, connected and efficient transportation that supports the community, economic diversification and future development. This includes roadways, transit railways, and airports and runways. We need to work with federal and provincial governments and other funding partners to help out future transportation initiatives.
We need to focus on getting rural residents to and from urban areas. We need to improve connections to Stony Plain, Spruce Grove, Acheson and Edmonton. The three municipalities currently run parallel programs for transportation. The region can harmonize programs by using consistent criteria and goals.
We also need to continue to align our strategies with those of the Edmonton region. The Edmonton Metropolitan Region Board, encompassing 13 municipalities in the region including Parkland County, Spruce Grove and Stony Plain, plans transportation and transit projects and submits priorities to the province annually.
We need to consolidate the staffing resources used by municipalities so that sharing of resources can take the pressure off municipal staff and support transportation infrastructure planning.
The lack of transit for residents can impede their quality of life. Our residents cannot be isolated, especially our seniors, and struggle without the food and services they need. We need to focus on getting rural residents to and from urban areas.
